Acoustic Pickup Adapter

The Acoustic Pickup Adapter allows the mounting of a common electric guitar pickup in an acoustic guitar without the need to modify the guitar. Instead of being stuck with a limited range of specialized pickups for acoustic guitars that may not fit your tastes you now have access to hundreds of different pickup models that you can experiment with to find a sound you like.

The installation does not require your guitar to be modified. No drilling, routing, or cutting is needed. The Acoustic Pickup Adapter mounts to the sound board with a small set of clamps that do not dampen the sound of the guitar. Cavities around the pickup allow air to pass through making sure your acoustic is not “choked for air” resulting in a muted guitar sound. The mounting will not mare the guitar’s finish. The Acoustic Pickup Adapter is made from transparent material to reduce the visual impact of the mounting.

Wiring of the pickup can be done in any manner the player desires. Run the pickup wire through one of the vent holes like with common “drop in” acoustic pickups, wire to a jack, an internal preamp, or even a set of volume and/or tone controls just like a normal electric guitar. The choice is yours.

Installation

Installing the Acoustic Pickup Adapter is easy and can be done in minutes. These instructions are just for the mounting of the Acoustic Pickup Adapter. Not included in these instructions are any steps involved with installing the pickup itself. Please consulate the instructions that came with your pickup.

Tools you will need:

Small Philips (cross / star) Screwdriver

Installation Instructions

  1. Mount the pickup into the Acoustic Pickup Adapter. Note: With the humbucker model make sure the pickup is low enough to allow the top mounting clamps to slide over the pickup.

  2. Remove / loosen the guitar strings to allow access to the guitar’s sound hole.

  3. Slide the mounting clips towards the center of the Acoustic Pickup Adapter.

  4. Carefully insert the Acoustic Pickup Adapter through the sound hole on an angle that allows the mounting clamps to clear the edges of the sound hole.

  5. When clear of the guitar’s sound board (top) straighten the Acoustic Pickup Adapter and pull the Acoustic Pickup Adapter towards the sound hole allowing the mounting clamps to make contact with the inside of the sound board. Note: The holes in the Acoustic Pickup Adapter can be used as handles.

  6. While pulling on the Acoustic Pickup Adapter towards the sound board slide the top mounting clamps until fully extended over the sound board.

  7. Adjust the Acoustic Pickup Adapter so the pickup is centered or aligned with the strings to your tastes.

  8. Tighten the mounting clamp screws with a small Philips screw driver until snug. Note: Do not over tighten otherwise you may damage the mounting clamps.

  9. Install the guitar strings.

  10. Set the pickup height to your tastes.
